Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde

Basking in the exotic sounds and poetry of the Far East. Mahler’s “Song of the Earth” is a voyage to China during the Tang dynasty. Mahler sets six ancient Chinese poems in the style of the late romantic music of turn-of-the-century Vienna. The program begins with inspiration from Asia Minor and Asia Major, drawing on music old and new to create an unforgettable evening of exotic orchestral sound and imagery.
